old books

we took a drive up to connecticut this weekend. we have passed by this one store for nearly 5 years visiting our daughter at school. i always thought i would like to look in there( just never mentioned it out loud), so i finally did and we stopped. books by the falls, in an old brick mill. the owner was so nice and we wandered around for at least an hour. i had it in my head to get some old books and gut them , make some very cool items. but when i started looking around, the books spoke to me they were so worn out and loved by their owners how could i think of destroying them. i rescued a pile for myself. the owner saw i had been drawn to the older well loved books, took me to a special room that was stacked high with old leather books,( the joy on my face was apparent) he left me to browse, i felt like i had just stepped into a harry potter store in his first book. it was delightful. i only chose one very old leather bound book, with fancy hand written names in the cover.
then the other day i was watching oprah, she had a new device. its called kindle and it stores books, so u no longer have to carry books. u can download the books. she said it's our future. kids will no longer be carrying all these books to school. we will be able to travel and bring as many books as we want with us! all i could think was how sad. we won't have all these time worn loved books, that i had just seen in this store.

my dear old friend

i lost my dear old friend yesterday, one that has always been there in the last 17 years, to listen to the problems and the joys of our family. always the king of the house, he demanded respect from everyone even the dog. you have left a hole in my heart little one.

sept 11th

this is such a sad day, as much as we try not to watch it on tv or the news it still comes the anniversary of this horrible day. it brings back memories of my brother, he was the first call i made that day. and we didn't know it then but less than a year later he would no longer be here with us. i know he watches over us, but i miss him so deeply...

i love this picture of an old farm house. we stumbled upon this house one afternoon just sitting there in the middle of a mega developement.
i thought how sad, the house does not not have much longer. the very next time we went out that way it was gone. at least i had my camera and snapped some photos.
i still can't help but wonder who had lived there, and the animals they had, the hard work that was done, big family dinners and the couple that grew old together sitting on the porch. the memories the old farm must have, it was a grand house once.
