old books

we took a drive up to connecticut this weekend. we have passed by this one store for nearly 5 years visiting our daughter at school. i always thought i would like to look in there( just never mentioned it out loud), so i finally did and we stopped. books by the falls, in an old brick mill. the owner was so nice and we wandered around for at least an hour. i had it in my head to get some old books and gut them , make some very cool items. but when i started looking around, the books spoke to me they were so worn out and loved by their owners how could i think of destroying them. i rescued a pile for myself. the owner saw i had been drawn to the older well loved books, took me to a special room that was stacked high with old leather books,( the joy on my face was apparent) he left me to browse, i felt like i had just stepped into a harry potter store in his first book. it was delightful. i only chose one very old leather bound book, with fancy hand written names in the cover.
then the other day i was watching oprah, she had a new device. its called kindle and it stores books, so u no longer have to carry books. u can download the books. she said it's our future. kids will no longer be carrying all these books to school. we will be able to travel and bring as many books as we want with us! all i could think was how sad. we won't have all these time worn loved books, that i had just seen in this store.
